Equity Foundation has existed since 1989 to eradicate prejudice against sexual and gender minority communties around Oregon.
History of Equity Foundation
In 1989, a group of gay and lesbian Oregonians,
deeply concerned about the hatred, violence, and divisiveness present in the
world, created Equity Foundation. The Foundation began by providing funding to
organizations that addressed issues of importance to the gay, lesbian, bisexual,
and transgendered community; to make visible their contributions to society at
large.
Equity Foundation is a grant-making, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
that is committed to funding programs dealing with community education, youth
and family, health and social services, and arts and culture. The foundation
works to promote social justice, education, and welfare of sexual and gender minority communities and of the people of Oregon in general by providing support to non-profit organizations throughout the state.
Equity provides funding through its
annual granting cycle to organizations and projects that align with the
foundation's mission and program priorities, as determined each year by the Board of Directors. Equity also provides funding by administering individual
donor-advised funds and
scholarship programs.
