
Equity Foundation with the support of the Meyer Memorial Trust, Pacific Power, McDonald Jacobs, US Bank, LeAnn Locher & Associates, Portland Business Journal, Lane Powell, Trillium Asset Management, Just Out, The Standard, Rainbow Tax Service, Eyes on Broadway, and City of Portland is hosting the first annual Equity Awards on January 20, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Governor Hotel in downtown Portland. This luncheon event honors Oregon and Southwest Washington businesses that embrace the diversity of the community by having exceptional hiring and employment policies and practices. An emphasis will be placed on policies and practices that promote social justice and provide equal opportunity for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals.

We realize that each company addresses diversity in its own way, so it is critical that you explain why your business is exemplary in your own words. Applicants must meet the following qualifications:
1. A for-profit business with employees in Oregon or Southwest Washington
2. The company may not be a sponsor of the Equity Awards
Awards will be presented to small, medium and large businesses that are exceptional in employment practices and policies benefiting diverse races, religions, mental or physical abilities, and any other minority group. An emphasis will be placed on policies that promote social justice and provide equal opportunity for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals. The Awards committee will select recipients based on excellence in the following areas: 1. Diversity trainings; 2. Outreach & recruitment; 3. Workplace accommodations; 4. Personnel policies; 5. Benefits; 6. Scholarship & educational opportunities; 7. Social Policies & 8. Any program or policy that the company feels is exceptional in embracing all diversity. Firms may self nominate by completing a simple one page application or may be nominated by other firms or individuals.
Equity Foundation has been giving grants to charitable organizations in education, arts and culture, youth and family, and social services since 1989. The Equity Foundation is now proud to not only recognize, but also to actively promote the efforts of Oregon for-profit businesses embodying the values of social justice and equal opportunity in the work place and in our community.
The deadline to submit a nomination is December 13, 2011 at 5:00 p.m.
