Making a Gift to Equity Foundation Through Your Will or Living Trust

Making a charitable bequest to Equity Foundation in your will or living trust is a powerful way to show your commitment to ending discrimination against sexual minorities and other minorities in Oregon.

There are several ways you can make a gift to Equity Foundation through your will or trust. You can specify that Equity Foundation receive a percentage of your estate, a specific sum of money, or specific asset (such as stocks, bonds, or real or personal property). You can also designate that your gift be used for Equity’s general grants and operations, or you can restrict your gift to a specific program, scholarship fund, or other purpose that is important to you.

Bequest Language

We are pleased to offer the following language for use when you and your attorney are drafting your will:

Unrestricted bequest:

I give to Equity Foundation an Oregon nonprofit corporation that is recognized as exempt from tax under Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, located in Portland, Oregon [insert here the specific sum of money, percent of the estate, the property, or the “rest, residue and remainder of my estate”] to be used for its general purposes.

Restricted bequest:

I give to Equity Foundation an Oregon nonprofit corporation that is recognized as exempt from tax under Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, located in Portland, Oregon [insert here the specific sum of money, percent of the estate, the property, or the “rest, residue and remainder of my estate”] to be used for [insert purpose, scholarship fund, or program for which the gift is to be used].

If, in the future, the Equity Foundation Board of Directors determines that there is no longer a need for funds as specified above or it is unwise, then the Board of Directors may, in its discretion, use the gift to fulfill other charitable objectives as they may designate keeping in mind the purpose set forth above.
