Equity Foundation is happy to provide programs that are as diverse as we are. From creating Safer Schools initiatives to growing our endowment, we work to create change in many ways. Read below for our special programs, and contact us if you would like to be involved!

Safe Schools Initiative

Starting in 2002, Equity Foundation sponsored a three-year Safe Schools Initiative to promote and create welcoming, safe, and healthy schools. Equity Foundation created the Safe Schools Initiative to respond to the growing documentation that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) students, and those perceived to be, are the frequent target for bullying and harassment. The challenge is to help school administrators and teachers understand that the problem is real and that there are effective ways to address it.

LGBTIQQ Juvenile Justice Project

The goal of the Juvenile Justice Project is to facilitate equitable, respectful, safe and appropriate treatment of LGBTIQQ youth in the juvenile justice and social service systems within the state of Oregon. It is estimated that 4-10 percent of the total detained youth in the juvenile justice system are LGBTIQQ. Close to 26 percent of LGBTIQQ youth are forced to leave their families of origin and end up homeless.

Equity Foundation’s Juvenile Justice Project is currently seeking funding through grants to train service providers in the state so that LGBTIQQ youth are provided with unbiased services. Our project committee consists of Equity Board Members, volunteers and professionals who work with LGBTIQQ youth in the community.

Please check out information on the Juvenile Justice Project links listed on the right where you can find details about the results from the project’s 2008 summit meeting with government officials, service providers and legal advocates, online resources, a list of the ten top things to know when working with LGBTIQQ youth, updates about the project’s current activities and additional documents supporting our mission.
